Obituary for Eulila Landrum
Eulila Winston Landrum  Eulila Winston Landrum was born March 21,1919 three miles south of Plumerville, Arkansas near Old River lake. She was the sixth child of the late Joe Frances and Mattie Mitchell Winston. Her mother passed away when she was six years old and her father married the late Lula White Winston who treated the children as if they were her own. She departed this life on March 31, 2008 at Medical Center of Lewisville, Texas. She was a resident of Lake Village Nursing and Rehabilitation.  Eulila attended elementary school in Plumerville and high school at Conway County Training School in Menifee, Arkansas. She also completed college courses at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro as a part of her training for her employment with ARVAC Head Start Home-based program. Because of her passion for cooking, entertaining and catering she also completed advanced cake decorating courses and food preparation courses. She also took many classes in Christian Education at the district, state and national level.  Eulila accepted Christ at age 13 at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Plumerville, Arkansas and later becoming a member of the Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church in Plumerville walking the 2-½ miles to church and Sunday School. After relocating to Russellville, Arkansas, she became a member of the New Prospect Baptist Church in Russellville Arkansas where she served for many years before relocating to Texas and joining the Friendship Baptist Church in The Colony, Texas.  She married Howard Landrum on October 23, 1938. Howard became an ordained minister on October 26, 1952. Eulila stepped into the role of the minister’s wife for New Hope Baptist Church in Plumerville and later Pilgrim Rest No. 2 Baptist Church in Atkins, Arkansas and St. John Baptist Church (now United Baptist Church) in Dardanelle, Arkansas. She counseled, taught, cooked, cleaned, and welcomed people into her home. She served as a worship leader in the Antioch District Women’s Association. She also served as chairman and co-chairman of the minister’s wives for Antioch District, Middle western District and the Regular Arkansas State Convention.  She was a charter member of Eureka Chapter 60 of the Order of the Eastern Star.  Eulila loved her churches and her family. Attending the church meetings, planning the various teas and hospitality for the meetings were very important to her. She also cherished family gatherings whether they were impromptu visits, holiday get to togethers or the Acklin, Hervey, Mitchell, Winston family reunion.  Eulila was mother to one natural child Eunice Lynell Mullins and served as mother to many other young people in her churches and community. She was always ready to listen and always had a homemade snack ready. She was grandmother to Tiffany Lynell Landrum who preceded her in death.  She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-seven years Dr. Howard landrum.  She was also preceded in death by her sisters Mary Acklin and Emogene McNeely, and brother Raymond Winston.  She is survived by her daughter Eunice Landrum Mullins and son-in-law Leo Mullins of the The Colony, Texas; sisters Ora Winston of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Dorothy Davis (Nathaniel) of Gary, Indiana; and Evelyn Magee of Marin City, California; sister-in-law Cleo Winston of Las Vegas, Nevada; and brothers-in-law Louis Landrum and Roy Lee Smith of Russellville, Arkansas. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11am Saturday April 5, 2008 at the New Prospect Baptist Church in Russellville. Family visitation will be on Friday April 4, 2008 from 6-7:30pm at the church. Arrangements entrusted to Larry G.
