Obituary for Gladys Broyles
Gladys Ruth Alexander Broyles was born February 2, 1923 to Andrew Willie Alexander, Sr. and Gertrude Alice Brown in Little Rock, Arkansas.  She departed this life on Friday March 13, 2009 in Conway, Arkansas at the age of 86 years.
After graduating from Dunbar High School in Little Rock, Gladys moved to Detroit, Michigan where she graduated from Lewis Business College.  Later, she graduated from cosmetology school and opened her own beauty shop.   In 1950, she met Ernest Paul Broyles and they were wed on July 25, 1951 in Detroit, Michigan.  They were blessed to share 57 beautiful years of marriage together.
In the 1960's she was baptized into Christ by Bro. Locke and became a member of the Conant Gardens Church of Christ in Detroit.  As an active member, she taught Sunday School classes, worked closely with the National Youth Conference, and served the congregation as secretary.
She retired from government service in 1976 after having been employed for 26 years with the United States Postal Service.   The couple moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1996 and became members of the Boulevard Church of Christ and Bright Angel Church of Christ and would reside there until their move to Conway, Arkansas in August of 2002.
Once in Conway, the couple placed membership with the Harrison and Willow Church of Christ where she served until her death.   No matter where she lived, she concerned herself with the underdog and those less fortunate.  She was meticulous in her appointed service to the congregations of which she was a part, always sending cards to those celebrating special days and flowers to those confined to the hospitals.  She played bridge regularly and enjoyed bowling.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and four brothers.  She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Ernest Broyles, Conway, AR; two sisters-in-law, Grace Evelyn Broyles, Conway, AR and Juanita Lewis, San Antonio, Texas; three nieces: Wynemia Olsen, Long Beach, CA, Mattie Hill and Marilyn Williamson, both of Little Rock, AR and two nephews:  Andrew Alexander of Little Rock and Christopher Alexander, Los Angeles, CA; long-time christian friend, Elouise Carter, Detroit, MI, and a host of Christian family and friends.
Funeral services will be held 11am Saturday March 21, 2009 at the Harrison and Willow Church of Christ in Conway.  Interment Robinson Cemetery.  Visitation will be Saturday at the church from 10:30am until 11am.  Arrangements entrusted to Larry G. Acklin Funeral Home, Conway.  "IN YOUR TIME OF NEED..... WE CARE".
