Obituary for Cornelius B. Tyus
Deacon Cornelius Bishop Tyus, 86, of Twin Groves, AR departed this life Sunday, October 14, 2012 in Little Rock, AR. He was born on March 14, 1926 to the late John L. Tyus and Gertha Brown Tyus. To this union nine children were born.Â
At an early age he professed a hope in Christ and united with Zion Grove Baptist Church.Â
After finishing high school at the age of 18, he was inducted into the Marine Corp and served in the WW11 in 1944 for 2 years and 6 months.
Later in life he was united in holy matrimony in 1956 to Lillie M. Keith. To this union came two daughters, Salonia Moore and Maxine Moore, both of Kansas City, MO and a son, Robert Lee Tyus.Â
He was a loyal and dedicated member of Zion Grove Baptist Church where he served as church clerk, chairman of the deacon board, President of Senior Choir, and the usher board. He also sung with the Humble Five Quartet.Â
He was employed at Arthur Daniel Milling Company for 22 years. He was the representative for AFLCIO Union Local #16. He also served on the Executive Board Contract and Negotiating Committee. Later in life Deacon Tyus attended UAPB to further his education in business. He was elected for Position #1 for the City Council of Twin Groves.Â
He also was Deacon of the Cypress Creek District, Head of Green Thumb in Twin Groves Community Center, Advisor of Laymen Movement in the district and Vice President of Usher Board in the district. He also served as Mayor of the city of Twin Groves for 4 years (2002-2006). He was also a retired self-employed dairyman.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Lee Tyus, J.W. Tyus, KR Tyus, and James Brown; sisters Lurlene Simmons, Husie Sanders, Pearlie Tyus, and Odella Dillard.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 56 years, Lillie Tyus; two daughters Salonia Moore and Maxine Moore, both of Kansas City, MO; 18 grandchildren and great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 11 am Monday, October 22, 2012 at Zion Grove Baptist Church, 1514 Hwy 65 North, Twin Groves, AR. Visitation one hour prior to services. Interment Zion Grove Cemetery.
