Obituary for William "Bill" Cowan
William George Cowan was born June 28, 1916 on Donnell Ridge located on Sewell Mountain Conway, Arkansas to George T. and Willie M. Thomas Cowan.  William was the eldest born of this union of five brothers and one sister. William "Bill" departed this life on Sunday morning, October 15, 2006.  William was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Leon,  sister Joyce Lurlene Owens; wives Lula and Mattie.He was united in holy matrimony to to Lula Mae Green and to this union nine children were born.  Bill and Lula were married 35 years.  Bill was later married to Mattie Rice for 27 years.William received his formal education at Hickory Street Schools, Scipio A. Jones and Caney Schools.William professed a hope in Jesus Christ in October 1956 at Christ Temple Church of Christ (Holiness) USA under the leadership of Elder John Gordon.  He was later ordained a deacon.William enlisted in the United States Army February 1943 and served his country for three years.  He worked at various occupations during his working years.  He retired from Taylor - McKinney tire Co. and Kimberly Clark.William leaves to cherish his going home to glory four daughters - Mildred Bryant (Jimmy), Margaret Turner and Judith Ann Taylor of Conway, AR; Ruth Parish (Rev. A.J.) of Fort Smith, AR; and one son William Earl Cowan (Patricia) of Little Rock, AR; three brothers Charles Cowan of Raytown, MO; James Cowan of Moreno Valley, CA and Harold Cowan of Habor City, CA; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.  Funeral services will be held Saturday Oct. 21, 2006 at Christ Temple Holiness Church.  Interment Monday 11am Oct. 23, 2006 VA National Cemetery.  Visitation 7-8pm Friday Larry G. Acklin Funeral Home, Conway.  "IN YOUR TIME OF NEED....... WE CARE".
