Obituary for Virgil Maze Arnold, Sr.
Mr. Virgil M. Arnold, 90, of Mayflower, AR departed this life on Thursday, December 28, 2023. He was born December 30, 1932 in Solgohachia, AR to the late Edward Franklin Arnold and Cordia A. (Shumate) Arnold.
Virgil attended White City Elementary and Jr. High School. After graduation, he attended and graduated from South Conway County High School in Menifee, Arkansas. He attended Philander Smith College in Little Rock, Arkansas. Virgil then moved to Oakland, CA, where he enrolled in Electronic Data classes. He was a member of the of the First Baptist Church. Virgil was drafted and inducted into the U.S. Army on April 12, 1953. After serving 39 years and 9 months of continuous service, he retired with an honorable discharge on December 30, 1993. He then moved to Redding, CA and reunited with Destiny Fellowship Church.
He volunteered for AARP as an Income Tax Aide Volunteer, served as Co-Chairman for the P.O.A. Architectural Committee in his residential community and maintained this position until moving back to Mayflower, Arkansas.
Virgil and Cora Arnold united in marriage November 13, 1976.
He leaves to mourn four daughters Adelia (Darrick) Swearingen, Sylvia Ibarry, Tamara (Reggie) Bailey and Diane Smith; two sons Virgil M. Arnold, Jr. and Christopher Daffin; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 9:00 am, Friday, January 19, 2024 at Palarm Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 795 Hwy 365 South, Mayflower, AR. Visitation 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm, Thursday, January 18, 2024 at the funeral home. Interment 12:000 pm, Friday, January 19, 2024 at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery, 1501 W. Maryland Avenue, NLR, AR.
