Obituary for Vernon S McDonough
Mr. Vernon Samuel McDonough, 87, of Morrilton departed this life Wednesday August 15, 2012.  Born September 4, 1924, in Webbers Fall, OK, he was the fifth of nine children born to Isaac Oliver and Mildia R. Sarah (Suggs) McDonough. He spent most of his younger life in Russellville/Dardanelle area.  He married Lily A. Hubbard on October 9,1943, in Morrilton.  They had six children.
Vernon served the Lord in most area of church life and upon retirement after 34 years from Nelson Electric Manufacturing Company, Tulsa, OK, he was Licensed with the Arkansas
District of the Assemblies of God. Â He pastored at Bigelow Assembly and Cornerstone Assembly near Atkins.Â
Vernon's goals in life were to teach his children, by word and action, to serve theLord and develop a good work ethic. Â Upon retirement in 1984, he returned to Morrilton and worked electrical construction and building dryers. Â He enjoyed fishing and was known as "Preacher" on the river bank.
Vernon was preceded in death by his wife, Lily, of 62 years; one son, Vernon "Sammy" Jr.; one sister, Lois Wright; four brothers: Norman, Thurman, James, and Elmo; and his parents.
Vernon is survived by five children: Ruth Anna Elledge and Don of Bartleville, OK; Revs. Erny and Joane McDonough of Port O'Connor, TX; Janet Sanchez and Delfido of Coolidge, AZ; Dean McDonough and Judy of Howe, TX; and Elaine French and Don of Sanger, TX; seventeen grandchildren, thirty-five great grandchildren.  He also leaves to mourn his passing by two brothers Lattie  and Barbara of Russellville and Isaac Jr. of Houston, TX; one sister, Martha McDonald of Oklahoma City, OK; sisters-in-law Barbara Cooper and Bobby of Morrilton, Dorothy, Norma Lou, and Bobbi McDonough all of Tulsa, OK area, and Amy (Hubbard)  Redfern of Oakhurst, OK.
Funeral services will be 10:30 am Monday, August 20, 2012 at Oppelo Assembly of God, 156 Todd Street, Oppelo, AR. Visitation 6-8 Sunday at the church. Interment Aunt Dilly Cemetery, Rose Creek Community.
