Obituary for Taft Gault, Jr.
Mr. Taft Gault Jr. was born June 27, 1943 in Wooster, AR (Pilgrim Rest) to William Taft Gault and Macy Garrett Gault. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one daughter, Gwendolyn Evonne Gault Cook, two brothers, Daniel Woodard and William Taft Gault; three sisters, Freddie Ester, Bertha Mae Gault and Evergreen Gault Burton.
He attended Pine Street School in Conway, AR. He moved to Detroit and worked at Ford Motor in Detroit several years. He later moved back to Conway and became an entrepreneur when he opened his own business – Gault’s Auto Cleaning and Body Shop. His shop is now known as Gault Paint and Body Shop located on Harkrider Street in Conway.
He united with Friendship Missionary Baptist Church under the Rev. Gardner and remained faithful until his health failed. He was faithful to the church choir. Taft sang with the Jubilar and the Golden Stars. Taft’s love for quartets was so great that he started the Gospel Wonders in 1982. The Gospel Wonders traveled across the nation and recorded one cassette tape of music. He will be sorely missed by the Quartet Industry. His voice often gave comfort to the families when he would sing at the homegoing of their loved ones. When the Gates Swing Open was requested by many families. He loved westerns and could be often found laughing and enjoying the same episodes over and over again while sitting in his favorite chair. He enjoyed Kensye brushing his hair and often laid in the floor just to play with his grandchildren.
He married Barbara Jean Lasker and enjoyed 60 years of marriage. To this marriage four children were born.
He leaves beloved family members to carry on his legacy: two sons, Taft Dwayne Gault and Kenneth Lazon Gault both of Conway; one daughter, Kimberly Gault of Conway; two sisters, Willie Jean Thomas of Oak Park, Michigan and Loisteen (Dave) Conley, Jr.; 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces and extended family friends.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, September 3, 2022 at Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 146 Taylor Circle, Conway, AR. Visitation 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm, Friday, September 2, 2022 at the funeral home. Interment Ray Cemetery in Conway, AR.
