Obituary for Sylvanus Lasker, Jr.
Mr. Sylvanus "Bank" or "Big L" Lasker, Jr., 76, of Conway, AR departed this life on Wednesday, May 17, 2023.
Bank is preceded in death by his wife Carolyn Lasker; mother Mae Opal; father Sylvanus Lasker Sr.; sisters Deloris Gatlin, Doris Dawson, Lou Dovie Pace, and Linda Lasker; and brothers Billy Lasker and Lloyd Lasker Sr.
Bank attended Pine Street High School, Class of 1964. Upon graduation, he joined the U.S. Army to serve his country.
After the Army, he moved to Detroit, Michigan with his sister where he made a living working for the Chrysler Motor Company and driving taxis.
On May 24, 1969, he married Carolyn Lasker. In this union, they raised three sons: Terrence, Terrell, and Laron.
In 1973, Bank and his family moved to Arkansas to be closer to loved ones and build a better life. He was able to get a job with the United States Post Office where he worked until he retired in 2002. In the mid-80s, he also worked alongside his brother at Lasker’s Pest Control until 2017.
Bank was a faithful member of the Postal Union and remained a member after retirement. He stayed connected with several of his former co-workers and met often for their monthly breakfast club gatherings.
Bank spent his life serving others in many ways. Every year, he lovingly sent all his brothers and sisters birthday cards as well as nieces and nephews. He generously included money in the cards for children under the age of 10 years old. He always had candy to pass out as he drove up the hill.
He joined Mt. Sinai around 1976 where he was a devoted member and deacon.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, sitting at his house in the garage looking down the hill, and listening to gospel music.
Bank leaves to cherish his loving memories: Three children, Terrence H. Collier (Kendra) of Little Rock, AR; Terrell C. Lasker of Williamsburg, VA; and Laron S. Lasker (Laura) of San Antonio, TX; four grandchildren Tanita Collier, Deidra Duhart (Jeremy), Makayla Lasker and Tyson Lasker; four great-grandchildren, Tamesha, Treshawn, Brendon and Jeremy Jr.; four brothers Vernon (Arlene) Lasker, Herman (Essie) Lasker, Johnny (Carrie) Lasker, and Clarence (Alberta) Lasker, all of Conway, AR; one sister Barbara Jean Gault of Conway, AR and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, May 27, 2023 at Mt. Sinai Church of God in Christ, 349 Hwy 365 South, Conway, AR. Visitation 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm, Friday, May 26, 2023 at the funeral home. Interment Ray Cemetery in Conway, AR.
