Obituary for Sam Jr. Briley
Mr. Sam Briley, Jr. 65 of Little Rock, Arkansas departed this life Monday November 4, 2013. Â He was born on September 10, 1948 in New Orleans, LA to the late Sam, Sr. and Willie Mae Briley. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Briley, Sr., his nieces, Lucy Briley and Terrell Bell; nephews Marcel Briley and Joe Wayne; brother-in-law Rev. Otis Levy and great-nephew, Christian Ryan Briley.
Sam or "Fat", as he was called, grew up in New Orleans. He was a friendly and sweet person who always greeted you with a big smile. He worked hard for many years as a longshoreman and truck driver. He was also a fantastic cook. One of the best in the family.
Baptized as a child at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church in New Orleans, LA, he attended St. Mary's and George Washington Carver High School.
Sam survived Hurricane Katrina and relocated to Little Rock, AR. He was a very honest and blunt person, but always polite. His favorite phrase was "Thank You". He enjoyed taking care of his parents. He loved the elders. Everyone knew Sam to be kind and gentle. His favorite show was Cowboys and Indians.
He will be sadly missed by his family. He leaves behind his siblings Barbara Levy, Myrtle Briley, Lucille, Ella Ware, Joe, Tommy Lee and Percy Lee and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.Â
Funeral services will be held 1 pm, Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at Larry G. Acklin Funeral Home chapel. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the services. Burial Arkansas Memorial Gardens, Jacksonville, AR.
