Obituary for Robert Lee Walker
Mr. Robert Lee Walker, 79, of Chicago, IL departed this life June 1, 2012. He was born August 5, 1932 at Damascus, AR to the late Pastor Robert YC Walker and Cozetta Walker. He was the third child of 14 children. He is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and five brothers.
He united with Solomon Grove Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and remained faithful until he moved to Chicago, IL.
Robert attended AM&A College in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, which is now known as the University of Pine Bluff. Later, he enlisted in the Army on August 15, 1950. During the Korean war, where he served as PFC (T), he received an Honorable Discharge on August 15, 1953. He also graduated from University of Chicago. Robert was employed for more than 30 years with the Chicago Library System.
Robert met and married his late wife, Barbara Walker on March 18, 1972 and gained a new family whom he loved dearly. He and his wife became members of the West 95th Oakdale Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and his wife as a deaconess. They served faithfully until death.
He leaves to cherish his memory two sons and one daughter-in-law, Ronald and Donald (Linda) Vanderhurst; one granddaughter, Barbara Elizabeth Vanderhurst; one grandson, Donta Vanderhurst; four great granddaughters, DeShonda, Kianna, Shonta, and Alexandra Vanderhurst; Two brothers, Heubert (Loevas) Walker and Charles Walker; three sisters, Mary (James) Collins, Lucille Walker and Brenda (David) Tenner; a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends whom will mourn his passing.
Funeral services will be 11 am Saturday, June 9, 2012 at Solomon Grove Baptist Church, 273 Solomon Grove Road, Twin Groves, AR. Visitation one hour prior to service. Interment Solomon Grove Cemetery.
