Obituary for Reuel L. Shepherd, Jr.
Mr. Reuel L. Shepherd, Jr., 79, of Conway, Arkansas, was born on April 4, 1943, in Magnolia, Arkansas. He attended Columbia High School in Magnolia and Peake High School in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. He graduated from Arkansas AM&N (UAPB) where he was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
He and Terry Whitmore Shepherd were married for over 50 years until she preceded him in death. He is survived by his children, Kimberly Shepherd-Scott (Christopher) and Reuel Jabbar Shepherd, both of Conway, and his grandchildren Jacob Scott and Ana Brandon. He also leaves behind his sisters, Dorothy Blevens of Arkadelphia and Sharon Moore of Magnolia, and his brothers, Robert (Denise) Hamilton of Forney, TX, and Carl Anderson of Allen, TX. He also leaves his sisters-in-law Carolyn Shepherd of Florissant, MO, Mildred Watkins and Marianna Bauldin of Chicago, IL, brother-in-law James Porter of Chicago, IL, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, Horatio Bagsby Shepherd, Reuel L. Shepherd, Sr., and Marjorie Shepherd of Magnolia, along with his brothers Perry "Sonny" Shepherd and Charles Shepherd.
Mr. Shepherd began his 37-year teaching career at the Pine Street School in Conway, moving over to Conway Junior High after integration. He stayed busy in many activities at Pleasant Branch Baptist Church, serving as Treasurer, a Sunday School/Bible Study teacher and a Trustee. After his retirement he founded the HOPE Preschool at the church.
Visitation will be held from 5:00pm - 7:00pm on Friday, June 3rd, and the funeral will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, June 4th, both at Greater Pleasant Branch Baptist Church, 601 Spruce Street, Conway. Interment will follow at Robinson Cemetery in Conway.
A special thank you goes to his sister-in-law, Thelma Smith of Conway, for her years of dedication as a caretaker for Terry and Reuel.
