Mrs. Opal Blakley, 86, of Denton, TX departed this life Thursday, December 7, 2023. She was born May 16, 1937 in Morrilton, AR to the late James Stricklen and Elsie McFalls.
Opal came to know Jesus at an early age at St. Paul AME Zion Church, in Morrilton AR where she was a member. Later, she became a member of Light of the World COGIC in Morrilton and then a member of Zion Temple COGIC in Conway AR Once she moved to Texas, she became a member of PromiseLand Church in Austin, TX. However, she remained a faithful member of Zion Temple COGIC until her death.
Opal is preceded in death by her parents, the late James Stricklen and the late Elsie Mcfall Stricklen. She was also preceded in death by her late sisters; stillborn twin sister (unnamed), Latha Rogers, Leoler Perry, Nevada Rosbia, Julia Stricklen, Dorothy Heaggan, Nannie Taylor, brother Samuel Stricklen and great-grandson Jacob Anderson.
She is survived by her sister Nannie Nickerson, her three sons Richard (Debbie) Anderson of Concord, NC, Charles (Vickie) Anderson of Barnwell, SC, Kevin (Rachelle) Anderson of Lewisville, TX, two daughters Sonya (Anthony) Mondrey of Lewisville, TX, Donna Canady of Hutto, TX. She shared a very special bond with Renee Canady (granddaughter) of Hutto, TX, Delores Campbell (cousin) of Rockford, IL and Dionne Ersery (great-niece) of Hot Springs, AR. Opal has 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am, Friday, December 15, 2023 at Zion Temple COGIC, 1272 Sutton Street, Conway, AR. Visitation 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm, Thursday, December 14, 2023 at the funeral home. Interment Mt. Zion Cemetery in Morrilton, AR.
