Obituary for Mr. Virgil Toney, Sr.
Deacon Virgil Toney, Sr., 84, of Springfield, Arkansas departed this life Monday October 29, 2012.  He was born December 1, 1927 in Springfield, Ar to the late Virgil Toney and Lucendia Brewer Toney. 

He professed a hope in Christ at an early age and joined at the Greater Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Plumerville, AR and remained a faithful member until his health failed.


He was joined in holy matrimony to Gracie Mae Criswell on February 10, 1949 and to this union six children were born. He was preceded in death by his wife, two sons Horce Dean Toney and Virgil Toney III and three sisters.

He worked in railroad for a number of years and construction for more than twenty years. He worked on most of the high rise buildings in downtown Little Rock, Ar. He concluded his work life after 11+ years at the Ward Bus Company in Conway, AR.

He also served as chairman of the deacon board and Superintendent of the Sunday School Department. Deacon Toney was also a community activist.
He is survived by four daughters, Linda Fields of Detroit, Michigan; Ruthie (Gary) Calvin of Plumerville, AR, Joyce (Guenther) Toney-Melzig of Belton, TX and Annie M. Davis of Morrilton, AR; two sons, Robert (Beverly) Toney of Morrilton, AR and Charles (Patricia) Criswell-Toney of Menifee, AR; one daughter-in-law Pamela Toney of Fort Smith, AR; three sister-in-laws Blanche (Lee Roy) Fowler of Springfield, AR, Lucille Early and Leona (James) White, both of St. Louis, MO; Nineteen grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held 11 am Monday, November 5, 2012 at Greater Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Plumerville, AR. Visitation 5-7 p.m. Sunday, November 4, 2012 at the funeral home. Interment Mt. Olive Cemetery.
