Obituary for Mary Alice Morris
Mrs. Mary Alice (Acklin) Morris, 89, of Conway, AR departed this life on Tuesday, March 29, 2022. She was born on February 5, 1933 to the late Naomi and Daniel Acklin.
She was educated at the Pine Street High School where she graduated as valedictorian and served as the Class Reporter.
She attended Philander Smith College and graduated from the University of Central Arkansas in 1979 with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology.
She held many jobs during her life including working at Virco, CAPCA, and she spent 20 years at the Conway Human Development as a care giver from which she retired after 20 years.
She was a devout member of the Greater Pleasant Baptist Church being baptized into membership in 1968 by Rev. J.R. Raynor. During her membership at Pleasant Branch, she was a faithful teacher of the Youth Senior Class Sunday School. She served as Assistant Church Clerk and as an Usher. She loved GPBBC members and especially the choir. She would sit on the third row and sing and clap off key; but nonetheless enjoying the fellowship and service.
She loved her Pine Street Community and was involved in several ways. She was instrumental in forming Acorn in Conway, helping to get transportation to school during integration and securing the use of the former Pine Street Gym for youth activities.
She made her transition peacefully at home on March 29, 2022, with family by her side.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Naomi and Daniel Acklin; four sisters, Mable Acklin, Frances Acklin, Helen Callahan and Betty Joe Fuller; her husband Tesrow Morris; her lifelong companions Opal Veasley and Pearline Davis; four children Billy Dan, Thomas and Luther Morris and Norine Agee; and one grandson, Kerry Jarmon.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm, Saturday, April 2, 2022 at Greater Pleasant Branch Baptist Church, 601 Spruce Street, Conway, AR. Visitation 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm, Friday, April 1, 2022 at the funeral home. Interment Ray Cemetery in Conway, AR.
