Obituary for Leroy Siddell

Mr. Leroy Siddell, 89 of Mayflower, AR departed this life, Friday, January 12, 2023. He was born December 22, 1934 in Sunset, AR to John and Bertha (Williamson) Siddell.


He met his wife, Floretta Douglas at Philander Smith College in Little Rock, Arkansas during her freshman year. On June 18, 1958 they were united in holy matrimony in Wynne, AR.


Leroy was a former teacher at Pine Street High School in Conway, AR and at East Side High School in Menifee, AR. Since teachers were paid only for 9 months out of the year; dad had few side hustles in order to support his growing family. He sold insurance for Herald Life Insurance, he worked at the Minute Man Restaurant and and prepared tax returns for the community.


He was hired by Conway Mills in 1969 as a Quality Control Supervisor. He retired at age 62 after 29 years of employment at Conway Mills.


Dad was an old school man. He took his role as the head-of-the-household serious.


To quote a couple of songs:


"He paid the cost to be the boss "


"Papa didn't take no mess!"


He was called Little Brother or Uncle Little brother by his immediate family,


Some people called him Slick or Speck.


Leroy Siddell is predeceased by his parents, siblings: Julius Siddell, Lucille Siddell Starks, Jeanette Siddell Vanner, E.J. Siddell, Watson Siddell, Oliver Siddell, Rosie Lee Siddell Carver, John Siddell, Jr., Frank Siddell, and Willie V. (Peep) Siddell Thomas and daughter Cherita Douglas Siddell. He is also predeceased by his father-in-law Booker T. Douglas and mother-in-law and  Arzola Douglas Ashford. 


He is survived by his wife, Floretta Siddell. daughters Ursula Denise, Gail Patrice, Sandra Elaine and Robyn Danielle; grandchildren Brittany Reese and Merissa Johnson; siblings Ora Lee Siddell Fitzgerald, Samuel (Brenda) Siddell and Van Robinson and brother-in-law Tommy Lee (Samantha) Douglas.


He also is survived by a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.


Mr. Siddell will be missed by his former students, former co-workers, neighbors and friends


Walk-thru visitation 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm, Saturday, January 20, 2024 at the funeral home chapel. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 21, 2024 at Palarm Chapel M.B. Church,795 Hwy 365 South, Mayflower, AR followed by Interment 12 noon, Monday, January 22, 2024 at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery, 1501 W. Maryland Avenue, NLR.
