Mrs. Juanita N. Polk, 91, of Conway, AR departed this life on Thursday, February 13, 2025. She was the last matriarch of her family. She was a daughter, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, the oldest mother of her church, and the community mother & grandmother. She wore all of those titles very well with love.
Mrs. Juanita was born July 4, 1933 in Sherrill, AR to the late T.J. Fairow & Beatrice Swift-Breedlove. She attended school in Tucker, AR. Then, after the passing of her mother and stepfather, the late Ellehugh Breedlove, she moved to Marianna, AR in 1949, where she, then, attended school. She accepted Christ at an early age at the Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Palestine, AR. After moving to Conway, AR in 1975, she became a member of Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church.
Mrs. Juanita united in Holy Matrimony to the late Richard S. Polk on January 4, 1956. To this union was born eight boys and two girls.
Mrs. Juanita worked in the cafeteria at Anna Strong Jr. High and after she moved to Conway, AR, she worked several years cleaning private homes. She also press combed hair on the side and baby sat for her family and the community. She loved spending time with her family, going to church, being outside in her flowerbed, doing yard work, gardening, cooking, cleaning, dancing, eating black walnut ice cream, tacos, Snickers candy bar, Hershey with almonds, sprite and double mint gum.
Mrs. Juanita is preceded in death by her husband Richard S. Polk; sons Eric Lacell Lochart, Anthony Polk, Wayne Polk and Andrew Lee Polk; daughter Barbara Polk; mother Beatrice Swift-Breedlove; stepfather Ellehugh Breedlove; father T.J. Fairow; sisters Eva Jean Jones, Mashellon Branscomb, Rae Williams, Zenobia Bennett, Nadine Breedlove, Blanchie Geans, Dovie Holt, Mamie Smith and brothers JC Bennett, TJ Fairow Jr. and Johnny Fairow.
Mrs. Juanita leaves to cherish her memories one daughter Lenora Polk-Watson of Conway; four sons Jerome (Connie) Polk of Menifee, AR, Ellehugh (Maxcine) Cross, Melvin (Sophia) Polk and Richard S. Lockhart, Sr., all of Conway, AR; Three sisters Gertha Breedlove of Conway, Joy Douglas Fairow and Lisa Brown of Oklahoma; two brothers Melvin Breedlove, Sr. of Warren, AR and Floyd Fairow of Stuttgart, AR; 18 grandchildren and over 14 great grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Polk will be held 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm, Friday, February 28, 2025 at the funeral home.
A Celebration of Life service will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, March 1, 2025 at Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 146 Taylor Circle, Conway, AR. Interment to follow at Friendship Cemetery.
