Obituary for Jimmy R. Butler, Sr.

Mr. Jimmy Ray Butler, Sr. Began his earthly journey December 27, 1954, in Warren, AR to Jimmie Lou Butler and the late Howard Butler, Sr. He was affectionately known to his family as “Uncle Jimmy”, to his grandkids as “DaDa”, to his children as “Daddy” and to his wife as “My Husband”.

Born and raised in the Church of God in Christ, Jimmy accepted Jesus Christ at an early age, where he attended Powerhouse COGIC, under the leadership of the late Elder L.C. Cook and the late Elder James Booker. He had a love for the church. He was a member of the Sunshine Band and also sung in the youth choir. As a child, he enjoyed traveling to various churches down south such as Eldorado, Strong, Huttig and surrounding areas. Jimmy developed a strong bond and friendship with many people at a young age.

Jimmy was a proud graduate of Warren High School (Class of 1973). Upon graduating Jimmy moved to Little Rock in 1979. Jimmy began working at Smokey Hollow in 1982 until the company relocated. He later worked at Crossroads as a delivery driver for 26 years and part-time for 17 years at Walmart as a meat butcher, until his health began to fail him.

Jimmy had a passion for taking pictures, playing basketball and, above all, playing his guitar.

His love for church followed him so that as an adult he joined Love Temple COGIC under the leadership of Elder Eli Wade, where he served as a deacon and musician. Jimmy also became a driver for the late Supt. Frank Reed at Revival Center. Jimmy visited Mt. Sinai COGIC and upon one visit, he faithfully served for over 27 years as lead guitarist, touching many lives with his unique tone and his compassion to play. Under the leadership of Supt. Earnest Sweat III, Bro. Jimmy loved his Pastor and enjoyed accompanying him. He served faithfully until his health began to decline. Bro Jimmy totally recommitted his life over to the Lord, wanting a fresh start and renewed relationship with God in 2024.

Jimmy is preceded in death by his late father Deacon Howard Butler, Sr.; his siblings Shirley Rhodes and Myrtis Savannah; granddaughter Teangela Tate; a great-grandson Noel Tate and son-in-law Freddy Flood.

He was a son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and a dear friend. His life and work touched many. Though he leaves behind a bereaved family, he also leaves a legacy.

Loved ones left to cherish his memories are his mother, Mother Jimmie L. Butler of Warren, AR; his devoted wife of 30 years, Gladys Butler; two daughters Titonia (Solomon) Flowers of Jacksonville, AR and Sabrina Flood of Conway, AR; two sons Jimmy Butler, Jr. and Javonte Butler, both of Little Rock, AR; two stepdaughters Nicole Lambert and Tiffany Manning, both of Little Rock, AR; 16 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; two sisters Lois Booker of Milwaukee, WI and Gwen Clark of Warren, AR; one brother Howard Butler, Jr. of Houston, TX; mother-in-law Pearl Manning of Memphis, TN; two sisters-in-law Georgia (Maurice) Rucker of Memphis, TN and Bridget Manning of Little Rock, AR; one brother-in-law Ben Manning of Blytheville, AR; a special niece & nephew Pamela Butler and Jesse Rhodes; four best friends Bobby Campbell, Rodney Gibbs, Donny Green, Joe Lee and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
