Obituary for Janice Susan (Byers) Brown
Mrs. Janice Susan Byers was born December 2, 1948 in Cleveland, Arkansas to her parents George Freeman Byers and Zella Mae (Byers) Byers.
She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters Geraldine Canady and Beverly Goodman; brothers Chester Lee Byers, Ervin Byers, George Byers, Burvin Byers, Ike Byers; six nephews and one great niece.
She professed a hope in Christ at an early age and was received her early teachings at Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church.
Janice attended preschool at Center School in Cleveland, AR. She attended middle school while in California. She later moved back to Arkansas and graduated from Horace Mann High School in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Janice enjoyed taking care of her plants and sewing. She also loved playing BINGO!!
Janice began working for the State of Arkansas Medical Examiner’s Office in March 2001. She later retired in June 2016.
While living in Los Angeles, she became known as a pillar in the community. She was known for helping underprivileged children. You would oftentimes find her spending time with the youth and she opened her home to feed them.
Most of all - Janice was a strong woman of faith in Jesus Christ!
Janice will be missed and cherished by her son Marquise (JohnNetta) Byers; one brother Everette (Nancy) Byers of Morrilton, AR; one aunt Betty Byers of Kansas City, MO; five grandchildren Marquise Davisha Byers, Maria Lourdes Byers, Sophia Lourdes Byers, Shequise Lavon Byers and Ilo Paige Byers; one great grandchild Ezra Byers; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 2:30 pm, Saturday, April 13, 2024 at New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church, 3433 Hwy 95, Cleveland, AR. Visitation 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm, Friday, April 12, 2024 at the funeral home. Interment Moore's Chapel AME Zion Cemetery in Cleveland, Arkansas.
