Obituary for James McAllister

Mr. James Franklin McAllister was born May 10, 1933 in Morrilton, Arkansas. He was the fifth of eight children born to the late Lexington McAllister and Theola McAllister. James accepted Christ as his personal Savior at an early age.


He was baptized and united with Spring Valley Baptist Church in Morrilton, Arkansas. He was a dutiful and loyal member of the church. He served as a church trustee under the leadership of Rev. Sherman Whitfield until his death.


He received his early education at Spring Valley Elementary School and graduated from Conway County Training School/ East Side High School, Menifee, Arkansas. 


James was united in holy matrimony with Zella Mae McDaniel in 1952.


He also joined the United States Army in 1952 and served honorably until 1955.


James worked from 1955 until his retirement in 2009 at the Kansas City Quarry in Kansas City, Missouri. There he was known as the ‘Power Monkey’; the man who handled the explosives. During that time, he started the McAllister Trucking Company and along with his brothers, Amazair and William, started the McAllister Brothers Charolais Farm.


James retired in 2009 and returned to Morrilton, Arkansas where he built a home and enjoyed farming and raising cattle on the family farm. James rode the tractor almost every day until he became ill in 2023. James also loved entertaining and hosted many of the Thompson Family Reunions at his home in Morrilton.


On Saturday morning, September 2, 2023, James slept peacefully into eternity with his loving family by his side at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas.


He is preceded in death by his parents, Lexington and Theola McAllister, twin brothers, Theophras and Theodas, brother, Amazair, II, and sisters, Juanita McFadden, Arletha Manley, and Lexene Holley.


James leaves to cherish his memory, his son, James McAllister, Jr. of Morrilton, Anita Timley, of Kansas City, MO. one brother, William K. McAllister of Kansas City, Missouri, a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.


Funeral services will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, 105 Arnold Street, Plumerville, AR. Visitation 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm, Friday, September 15, 2023 at the funeral home. Interment Spring Valley Cemetery in Morrilton, AR.
