Mrs. Helga Alberta Reese Hood, 92, of Menifee, AR departed this life on Wednesday, September 13, 2023. She was born in Arkansas in the St. John Community (between Plumerville and Mt. Olive) on March 30, 1931 to the late Arlington Reese, Sr. and Josiephene Parker Reese.
Helga spent most of her early years in the St. John Community growing up with her loving family, which included her paternal grandparents, Mance and Ida Reese. She attended grade school at New Hope until the 6th Grade, and then finished her high school education at the Conway County Training School in Menifee.
She had a burning love for the Lord and gave her life to Christ at an early age. She was baptized and joined St. Mark Baptist Church in Menifee. Later as a young woman, she joined the Philadelphia Missionary Baptist Church, where she remained a dedicated and dutiful member until her health failed. Helga was known as a Godly woman who was the epitome of grace, elegance and always had a passion for doing God’s work. Helga was a powerful Sunday School teacher and a faithful supporter of the Women’s Missionary Society at her home church. She served for many years as the Recording Secretary of the Middle Western District Association. In 2000, she accepted the assignment as President of the Middle Western District Association Woman’s Auxiliary, where she diligently served until she retired in 2008. She also served in various capacities throughout the local, state and national levels, giving honor and glory to her Lord and Saviour when and wherever she could.
Helga was a hard worker and had numerous jobs during her work career. She began by developing Photographs and her love for pictures remained throughout her life. She worked many years at the Garment Factory in Morrilton, AR (later known as Levi’s). In 1971, she began working at Conway Mills/Kimberly Clark where she remained until she retired in 1994. Despite the fact officially retired, she remained busy. She dedicated a lot of her time to taking care of her parents until their passing. Afterwards, she decided to put those skills to good use by going to work for Care Link, where she remained until she decided to fully retire in 2011. Although not in the workforce any longer, she continued to provide support for her grandchildren and even a couple of great grands. Throughout her life, she left a lasting mark on all those she encountered.
In June of 1952, Helga married the late Rev. Charles T. Hood. To this union, five children were born. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda J. Hood-Halcrombe; two grandchildren, Felicia L.
