Obituary for Helen Lee Stewart
Mrs. Helen Lee Stewart, 82, of Conway, AR departed this life on Tuesday, October 24, 2023. She was born in Sherrill, AR on August 11, 1941 to the late L.C. Lee and Alice S. Hines.
She is preceded in death by her son, father, mother, brother and oldest sister.
Helen was a seamstress where she learned to make coats. She was also a light bulb tester for Sylvania Light in Dyersburg, Tenn. She later moved to Flint, Michigan to be close to her sisters. She joined Canaan Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Charles E. Roots. Pastor Roots ate some of Helen’s rabbit, rice and gravy. From then on, she had to cook him rabbit, rice and gravy.
She started working at the Hyatt Hotel in Flint, Michigan as a cook. Her boss Mannan liked her cooking so well he made her manager over the kitchen. He told her to teach the others how to cook like her. When the Hyatt Hotel closed down, she went to work at the Holiday Inn in Flint, Michigan until sickness set in. Helen would not give in to her sickness. She began working with her son-in-law and daughter, David and Patricia Burton at World Class BBQ in Flint, Michigan. There, she prepped the food at their business and oversaw the money.
She then said she wanted to be with her only living sister, so she moved to Conway, AR in 2017, where she joined Union Missionary Baptist Church.

Stewart of Dyersburg, TN and Patricia (David) Burton of Flint, Michigan; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; one sister Elviria Watts of Conway, AR; two god daughters Loretta (Robert) Wright of Flint, MI and Ora Weatherby of Dyersburg, TN; two special friends Marie Penister of Pine Bluff, AR and Maria Gilson of Conway, AR and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm, Friday, November 3, 2023 at Union Baptist Church, 1257 Lincoln Street, Conway, AR. Visitation will be held 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm, Thursday, November 2, 2023 at the funeral home. Interment Robinson Cemetery in Conway, AR.
