Eva was born to Calvin Gault and Bertha Clinkscale Gault Brockman on September 9, 1940. She attended and graduated from Pine Street High School in Conway, AR. After high school she explored living in a couple other states but ended up staying close to home where she was happiest. Eva worked at CHCD for 25 years and retired after having heart surgery. She moved back out on the land in Wooster after marrying Kapolean Ealy and lived there until her death.
Our Mom was the youngest of 5 children and spoiled by all her siblings. She was definitely a little spitfire. She worked hard her whole life to raise us and keep us safe. Not an easy feat for a single black woman back then but our family is strong, and we survived. God is a protector and a provider.
Our mother loved butterflies, ice cream sandwiches and Coca Cola in the bottle with a bag of salted peanuts poured into the bottle. She collected little bells from all over the United States. Every time we traveled; she would ask us to bring her a bell home. On Saturday mornings we would wake to James Cleveland, BB King or The Staple Singers blasting on the stereo, depending on her mood. Time to get up and clean the house.
Our Mom was a wonderful mix of sugar and vinegar. She taught us to go for what we wanted in life and to not accept less than we deserved. She taught us to stand on our word and tell the truth. She taught us to be STRONG.
Her last wish was that the family stay together and get to know each other like we did when Uncle Fletcher, Aunt Marlee, Aunt Willie Mae and Mama Bertha were alive. Family- let's honor her wish and make sure we continue to stay in contact and make sure our children know each other. She loved each and every one of you.
