Obituary for Essie Mae James
Mrs. Essie Mae Graham James, 69, of Carlisle, Arkansas departed this life Thursday August 2, 2012.  She was born in Lonoke, Arkansas to the late Frank and Mahalia Graham on June 5th, 1943. She was one of six children born to this union. After graduating from Carver High School in 1961, she married and made her home in Carlisle, Arkansas. 

She was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Carlisle, Arkansas, where she loved planning events and decorating for church functions.  Cooking was always a passion of hers, whether it was at work or home.  She was known for her homemade fried pies, peach cobblers and popcorn balls. She loved being in the kitchen and collecting recipes, showing her love through whatever dish she prepared.

Essie exemplified the epitome of a wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. 

The Lord called her home on August 2nd, 2012.  Preceding her in death was her husband of 49 years, Earnest James; her parents, Frank and Mahalia Graham; one son, Earnest (Bubba) James Jr.; one brother, Jerry Graham; one sister Alma Jean Reed; and one grandson, Adryan Spencer.

She leaves behind to cherish the memories of her life, two sisters, Millie Dowd of Carlisle, Kathy Harris of Kankakee, IL; two brothers, Dan (Irene) Graham of Pine Bluff, Willie (Jane) Graham of Mesa, AZ; four daughters - Lora (Timmy) Powell of Carlisle, Conya (Gary) Spencer of Lonoke, Antwuanette Ricks of Carlisle, and Angelia (Tim) James of Carlisle; three sons - Neal James of Kaiserslautern, Germany, Danny (Mary) James of Conway, Reggie (Leigh) James of North Aurora, IL; one God daughter - Latoya Cooney-Burley; two special “daughters”, Jackie Williams and Angela Berryman; sixteen grandchildren - LaRisha (Cody) Nelson, Timothy (Merina) Powell II, Tamara Powell, Latisha James, Julia Croley, Adriana James, Trenton Spencer, Tyler Spencer, Alexis James, Cole Childs, Quinn Childs, Ashley Wendt, Deron Ricks II, DeShaye Ricks, Cadarius James, Timothy Barnett, Adrienne Barnett; six great grandchildren - Braylon Nelson, Kaisey Nelson, Cody Nelson, Chloe Nelson, Tayvion Metcalf, and Makynzie Powell; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 2 pm Thursday, August 9, 2012 at Gateway Fellowship International, 101 Alice Lane, Lonoke, AR. Visitation one hour prior to services. Interment Carlisle Cemetery, Carlisle.
