Obituary for Dorothy R. Bedford
Mrs. Dorothy R. Bedford, 76, of Conway, AR, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 1, 2020. She was born April 22, 1943 to the late Mrs. Elizabeth Dukes McCray.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her beloved husband Reverend Marvin Bedford, her mother, her father Mr. Joe Cohens, her stepfather Mr. Willie McCray and five siblings: George McCray, Joe McCray, Daisy McCray, Bennie Cohens, Joe C. Cohens.
Dorothy was a longtime employee of Kroger, where she worked as a checker. Decades after her retirement, she was still recognized by many as “the very nice, pretty lady who always had a smile on her face.”
Dorothy will be remembered by her family and friends for her wicked sense of humor, tenacity, strength, willingness to “tell it like it is to whomever needs to hear it,” and most importantly, her unwavering love, affection and support for her family and friends.
Dorothy professed her hope in Christ at an early age and was a longtime member of the Greater Pleasant Branch Baptist Church in Conway, AR, where her husband Marvin served as a Deacon. Following the death of her husband, Dorothy reunited with her home church, the United Missionary Baptist Church in Conway, AR.
Dorothy is survived by two children, son Marvin William Junior Bedford and daughter Alice Wright (Robert), two grandchildren Brent Bedford and April Rogers (Marquis), all of Conway, and two great grandchildren Bryceson Bedford and Braylin Bedford, both of Dallas, TX. She is also survived by six brothers: Henry Mason (Daisy), Jerry McCray (Barbara), Will McCray (Carolyn), Houston McCray (Carolyn), and Sammy McCray (Ada) of Conway, AR, Willie Giles (Ernestine) of Kansas City, MO; and three sisters: Lorene McCray, Diane Jenkins, and Helen Ticey all of Conway, AR.
Dorothy leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-in-law and friends to cherish her memory.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, March 7, 2020 at United Baptist Church, 139 Old Military Road, Conway, AR. Visitation 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Friday, March 6, 2020 at the church. Interment Dukes Cemetery in Conway, AR.
