Mrs. Arthalia (Thalia) Akins was born August 31, 1952, in Tucker, Arkansas. She was the 3rd child born to the late Wheeler and Yuonita Sims.
She attended Tucker Rosenwald School from the 1st thru the 9th grade. Following desegregation, she attended Plum Bayou High School in Wright, AR, where she graduated at the age of 16.
Sister Akins accepted Christ at an early age at the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Tucker, AR. After she and her husband moved to Conway, AR, they united with Union Missionary Baptist Church, where she faithfully served in various roles, to include Deaconess, Youth Sunday School Teacher, President of the Women’s Mission Ministry, and Chairperson of the Beautification Committee. In addition, Sister Akins was instrumental in nurturing the youth in their Christian growth. Sister Akins loved the Lord, and she had a heart for helping others.
Sister Akins was very talented and gifted with her hands in crafts and interior design. Many were blessed over the years by her creativity.
Sister Akins departed this life November 28, 2023, at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock, AR. She is preceded in death by her parents, a son, Terry Akins, and a brother, Walter Sims.
Sister Akins leaves to morn her passing, her husband of 51 years Lorenzo Akins; a daughter, Kimbie Akins of Conway, AR; two sons, Christopher (Princess) Akins of Plumerville, AR; Lorenzo (Jamelyn) Akins Jr. of Amarillo, TX; two granddaughters, Jalyn and Madiison; five grandsons, Christopher (Drew), Christian, Lorenzo III, Kylan, and Khakamyah; one great-grandson, Josiah; four brothers: Wheeler (Cheryl) Sims, Jr. of Hensley, AR; Wayne (Phyllis) Sims of Little Rock, AR; Michael Sims of Tanza Cavite, Philippines; Russell (Yvoner) Sims of Olive Branch, MS; six sisters: Kathy Howse of Conway, AR; Veolia Gibson of Sandy Springs, GA; Margaret Haygood of Frisco, TX; Janice Scott of Lithonia, GA; Jacqueline (Greg) Thomas of Lilburn, GA; and Nita Chaney of Loganville, GA; an uncle, Otto Ross Jr.; an aunt Friedle (Dale) Ross, both of Kansas City, MO; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.
Sister Akins was dearly loved by many and she shall truly be missed.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Robinson Cemetery, 1198 Lincoln Street, Conway, AR. Visitation 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm, Friday, December 8, 2023 at the funeral home. Interment Robinson Cemetery in Conway, AR.
